Many people often have questions about grooming prior to their portrait session. We often hear the same questions: Should I get my nails done? Should I get my lip waxed? What about a spray tan? Should I dye my hair?
We recommend that any grooming you do be at least 3-5 days prior to your shoot. This will insure that everything is looking good and any swelling or irritation that may have occurred will have subsided.
Which leads us to the topic of spray tans… I never recommend that you get one but if you must, please give yourself 48 hours to lose a little of that “orange glow” as this does not translate well on camera. I understand if you feel totally pale and want to get it done. Just give yourself enough time to fade a little into your natural skin tone.
Please know that your nails will most likely show in some of the photos, so a fresh manicure is ideal. Choose a neutral color or a color that aligns with your personal style. If you don’t have time for a manicure, au natural is best. Please remove any old nail color.
A fresh dye job and hair cut a few days prior to your shoot is always a good way to prepare. However, this is not a great time to try out a new style or color in the event that you don’t like how it turns out. Keep your look “classic you” and you’ll be golden. Arrive to your shoot with clean dry hair that hasn’t been flat ironed.
People always ask if facial hair will show in photos and the short answer is yes! If you’re self-conscious and don’t want it to show, get rid of it. Just give yourself a couple days for your skin to calm down after waxing. Same goes for body hair. Less is more. Unless that’s your thing.
And last, please arrive with a clean moisturized face. We will take care of the rest! If you have a specific look you’d like to emulate, bring a few iPhone or Pinterest photos so you can collaborate with the stylist. These are YOUR photos and we want you to love them!
